Notting Hill’s Italian crown currently belongs to two-year-old Piccola Cucina, near Portobello Road. Hearty Sicilian-style food dominates: alongside pastas such as tagliatelle with veal ragù and Norma macaroni with fried aubergine and ricotta, signature dishes include octopus tentacles in caper sauce, swordfish guazzetto and crunchy veal chops dipped in breadcrumbs. Rare treats include blue lobster with linguine, and wines range from Tuscany’s Sassicaiaor to Lombardy’s bubbly Ca del Bosco Cuvée Prestige.
